![]() Cameron S. Carter, M.D. Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Psychology Director, Imaging Research Center University of California, Davis Dr. Carter's clinical interest is in the early diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia and other neurodevelopmental disorders. His research focuses on understanding the neural basis of healthy cognition and on the pathophysiology of disturbances in cognition and emotion in mental disorders such as schizophrenia. His goal is to contribute to the development of more effective therapies that can improve patients' chances of recovering function and improved quality of life. A key element of the philosophy that guides research in Dr. Carter’s laboratory is that translational and clinical research is optimal when it is informed by theoretical and methodological progress in basic and cognitive neuroscience, and that the experiments of nature provided by clinical brain disorders may also provide us with powerful additional insights into the neural basis of normal cognition. Dr. Carter joined NARSAD’s Scientific Council in 2005 and received NARSAD Young Investigator Awards in 1994 and 1997, a NARSAD Klerman Award Honorable Mention in 1998 and the Klerman Award in 2001. |
