![]() B. J. Casey , Ph.D. Director and Sackler Professor of Developmental Psychobiology Sackler Institute for Developmental Psychobiology Weill Medical College of Cornell University Visiting Research Collaborator, Psychology Department Princeton University Dr. Casey’s research focuses on inhibitory mechanisms of attention, particularly their neurobiological basis, development and pathology. She studies the normal development of brain circuitry involved in inhibitory control and behavioral regulation and how disruptions in these brain systems (prefrontal cortex and basal ganglia) can give rise to a number of developmental disorders. More recently, she has begun to examine the effects of timing of environmental events (e.g., institutionalization) and insults on the development of behavioral regulation and related brain systems. She uses both functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to examine brain circuitry involved in inhibitory control and published the first fMRI study with children. Dr. Casey continues to be a pioneer in the study of human brain development and behavior using noninvasive neuroimaging techniques and is moving toward relating these measures to genetics. Dr. Casey was elected to NARSAD’s Scientific Council in 2006. |
