Kolb Professor and Chairman, Department of Psychiatry College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University Lieber Professor and Director, Lieber Center for Schizophrenia Research, Department of Psychiatry, Columbia University Director, New York State Psychiatric Institute Psychiatrist-in-Chief, Columbia University Medical Center of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Dr. Lieberman’s work has considerably advanced understanding of the natural history and pathophysiology of schizophrenia and the pharmacology and effectiveness of antipsychotic drugs. He currently serves as principal investigator of the Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness (CATIE) Program. Initiated in 2001 and funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, with more than 1400 participants at 57 sites across the country, CATIE is the largest and longest study of schizophrenia and the effectiveness of antipsychotic treatments. Dr. Lieberman has been at Columbia University since 2005. Previously, he was Thad and Alice Eure Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry, Pharmacology and Radiology, and vice chairman for research and scientific affairs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, and on the faculties of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. A member of NARSAD’s Scientific Council since 2001, he received a NARSAD Distinguished Investigator Award in 1999, and is the 2006 recipient of NARSAD’s Lieber Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Schizophrenia Research. |
