![]() Judith L. Rapoport, M.D. Chief, Child Psychiatry Branch National Institute of Mental Health The laboratory that Dr. Rapoport has led at NIMH since 1984 investigates the clinical phenomenology, neurobiology and treatment of psychiatric disorders in children, including childhood-onset schizophrenia, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, with a particular focus on diagnosis. Over the past decade, her group has been concentrating on both normal and abnormal brain development in childhood and adolescence, and better understanding and treatment of childhood-onset schizophrenia. In addition to her post at NIMH, Dr. Rapoport is professor of psychiatry at George Washington University School of Medicine and clinical professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical School. Among her writings is a book for general readership, “The Boy Who Couldn’t Stop Washing: The Experience and Treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.” A member of NARSAD’s Scientific Council since 1993, Dr. Rapoport received NARSAD’s Ruane Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Research in 2002. |
