 Publications  We present 8 stories about NARSAD investigators whose bold departures in research are deepening our understanding of neuropsychiatric illnesses, leading the way to new and better treatments, and making the prevention and cure of mental illnesses a possibility that grows nearer by the day. The scientists whose work is profiled here make clear the vital importance of a non-governmental funding source like NARSAD, which enables them to take intellectual risks and pursue novel ideas. These grants are one of the few mechanisms that facilitate genuinely new approaches. The grants should therefore be regarded as seed funds that facilitate innovation.
