Marisa E. Domino, Ph.D.
Independent Investigator
Marisa Domino, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Health Economics in the Department of Health Policy and Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her Ph.D. in Health Economics from the Johns Hopkins University and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the economics of mental health at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Health Care Policy.
Dr. Domino’s research interests include the economics of mental health, agency relationships among physicians, patients and insurers, the diffusion of new technologies, and the public provision of health care and health insurance to low income populations. She has worked on a variety of projects on managed care and behavioral health, including papers on the impact of managed care on treatment selection for depression in both public and private settings, the impact of managed care on the field of psychiatry, and analyses of behavioral health carve-outs. Dr. Domino has worked extensively on large claims databases from Medicaid and other insurance programs and has substantial expertise in applied econometric analyses. Dr. Domino has received a K01 Career Development Award from the National Institute of Mental Health to analyze factors that affect the diffusion of psychotropic medications in a variety of populations. She has also received funding from NARSAD to examine the effect that Medicare Part D has had on individuals with severe mental illness.
