Pradeep J. Nathan, Ph.D.

Pradeep J. Nathan, Ph.D.
Independent Investigator

Pradeep Nathan is Associate Professor of Neuroscience and a NHMRC R. Douglas Wright Fellow at Monash University. He is also an Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge.

He completed his BSc(Hons) (Pharmacology) and Ph.D. (Neuroscience) at the University of Melbourne and subsequently held research positions at the University of Melbourne and the Brain Sciences Institute and Monash University.

Professor Nathan has published over 90 peer reviewed journal papers in international journals. He has also received many local and international awards for his research including the prestigious NHMRC R. Douglas Wright Career Development Award, the Australasian Society for Psychiatric Research Organon Award, the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology, Ole Rafaelson Fellowship Award and the Australian Young Tall Poppy Science Award. He is also serves on the editorial boards of several journals including, International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology, CNS Drugs Reviews, Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior and Human Psychopharmacology.

Professor Nathan’s research focuses on the neurochemistry and neural substrates of cognition and emotion and psychiatric endophenotypes. He believes that a greater understanding of the neurochemistry and knowledge of where and how drugs modulate cognitive and emotional processes and associated neural networks will aid in the development of functional biomarkers and better targeted treatment approaches for emotional and cognitive dysfunction in Psychiatric disorders.
