Stéphane Oliet, Ph.D.
Independent Investigator
Dr. Stéphane Oliet graduated in 1987 from the University of Nice (France) where he obtained a BSc degree in Physiology. Dr. Oliet then pursued his studies at the University of Bordeaux (France), and obtained a MSc degree in Pharmacology in 1989. He carried out his graduate studies at McGill University in Montreal (Canada) and obtained a Ph.D. in Neurological Sciences in 1994.
Dr. Oliet is presently working as a group leader at the Inserm Research Center for Neuroscience in Bordeaux. His research is focused on neuron-glia interactions in the central nervous system and more specifically on the contribution of astrocytes to synaptic transmission and plasticity in various brain structures. They are particularly interested in glia-derived D-serine, which is an endogenous co-agonist of the NMDA receptor.
