Charles R. Conway, M.D.
Young Investigator
Charles R. Conway, M.D. is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of St. Louis University with Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Psychology. He earned his medical degree at University of Missouri-Columbia and did his psychiatry training at Duke University
where he served as Chief Resident at John Umstead Hospital in his fourth year.
He then joined the faculty at St. Louis University (SLU) Department of Psychiatry in 1999 (also visiting faculty and collaborator at Washington University Dept. of Psychiatry in St. Louis) where as an Assistant Professor he has been actively involved in residency training and research. Dr. Conway has published numerous papers, abstracts, and posters primarily focused on mood disorder treatments (depression and bipolar disorder). He actively collaborates with Dr. Yvette Sheline at Washington University School of Medicine, who serves as his primary mentor on his K-08 Career Training Award which utilizes PET imaging to assess acute and chronic effects of Vagus Nerve Stimulation on treatment resistant depression. Dr. Conway has received numerous awards including the NAMI Distinguished Psychiatrist Award, Caring Physician Award, and has twice received the Teacher of the Year award by the SLU Psychiatry residents.
