Xiaoduo Fan, M.D.
Young Investigator
Dr. Xiaoduo Fan is a staff psychiatrist at the Massachusetts General Hospital Schizophrenia Program, and Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. In addition, he is the Associate Director of Schizophrenia, Weight Reduction & Diabetes Research.
Dr. Fan received his medical degree from Peking University in Beijing, China. He also earned a Master degree in Clinical Psychology at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago. Dr. Fan then completed his Psychiatry residency training at the State University of New York in Buffalo before he joined the Schizophrenia Program at MGH.
Dr. Fan’s research interests primarily focus on medical comorbidity of schizophrenia, as well as innovative treatment strategies for negative and cognitive symptoms. He is developing a series of studies to systematically explore the mechanisms of antipsychotic-induced metabolic disturbances from different perspectives:
1) environmental and behavioral factors; 2) neuro-endocrine-immune integration; 3) genetic polymorphism. In addition, Dr. Fan is interested in cultural and ethnical aspects of psychiatry.
Dr. Xiaoduo Fan has received several awards, including NIMH Outstanding Resident Award, APA/Janssen Research Scholars Award, the NIMH NCDEU New Investigator Award, and the NARSAD Young Investigator Award.
