Cindy J. Aaronson, Ph.D.
Young Investigator
Dr. Cindy J. Aaronson received her BA from University of South Florida in 1978, her MSW from Columbia University School of Social Work in 1985 and her doctorate in 2001, also from Columbia University. She began her research career at New York State Psychiatric Institute in the Anxiety Disorders Clinic working with Dr. Abby Fyer, first on a family study of panic disorder then on a family study of simple phobia. In 1993, she worked with Dr. Myrna Weissman on several studies, a genetic linkage study of panic disorder, a follow-up study of anxious and depressed children as adults and a multigenerational study of depressed patients and their families. After completion of her doctorate, Dr. Aaronson worked with Dr. Andrew Skodal on a multi-site longitudinal study of personality disorders for just over a year. In 2003, she came to Mount Sinai School of Medicine with Dr. Jack Gorman returning to anxiety disorder research. Her interest is in combining clinical treatment using cognitive behavior therapy and neuroimaging research.
