Paul P. Allen, Ph.D
Young Investigator
Paul Allen studied Psychology and Neuroscience before beginning a Ph.D in Neuropsychology at King’s College London in 2001. Dr. Allen’s doctoral work focused on the psychological, physiological and neural mechanisms associated with the experience of auditory verbal hallucinations in patients with schizophrenia. Since completing his doctoral thesis, Dr. Allen has worked in the Section of Neuroimaging, Department of Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry in London. In 2005 he was appointed to the position of Lecturer in Neuroimaging working with Professor Philip McGuire and using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to study language and memory in individual at risk of developing psychosis. He is also working on an fMRI study assessing the effects of acute THC administration (the active component of the cannabis plant) on brain function, memory and perceptual processes.
