Melita L. Daley, M.D.

Melita L. Daley, M.D.
Young Investigator

A consistent thread throughout Dr. Daley’s career has been her interest in the pathophysiology of different neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly psychotic and affective disorders that typically have onset in adolescence. Dr. Daley received her doctorate in medicine in 1994 and her commitment to this career path began in the General Psychiatry Residency at Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada. From there, Dr. Daley pursued more specialized training in child and adolescent psychiatry and performed her fellowship at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute, where she was awarded the UCLA Nurses’ Physician of the Year Award and the Eli Lilly Pilot Project Award to study early-onset OCD using structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging techniques. In 2004, Dr. Daley was listed as one of America’s Top Psychiatrists and then awarded the Epilepsy Foundation of America award in 2005 to study amygdala volumes in a childhood epilepsy sample compared to normal children and adolescents. Dr. Daley is presently working at the UCLA Semel Institute as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and have recently been appointed medical director of The Center for the Assessment and Prevention of Prodromal States (CAPPS) and The Adolescent Brain-Behavior Research Clinic (ABBRC) programs at UCLA under the direction of the well-established researcher Dr.Cannon. Dr. Daley is also currently involved in Dr.Cannon’s programs in terms of the assessment and treatment of adolescents with prodromal states, psychosis, as well as bipolar disorder. She is interested in studying the neurobiological basis of these complex psychiatric illnesses.
