Mei Huang, Ph.D.
Young Investigator
Mei Huang received her Ph.D. in Neuro-Pharmacology in August 2002 in China. She began her current position as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Psychopharmacology Division directed by Dr. Herbert Meltzer at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in July 2003. She has received a 2005 NARSAD Young Investigator Award and 2006 CINP (Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologium) Young Investigator Award. Since joining Dr. Meltzer’s laboratory, she has increased her technical skills in microdialysis, HPLC, UPLC-Mass, while studying the mechanism of action of antipsychotic drugs to increase dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, acetylcholine, glutamate, and GABA release in rat and receptor knockout mouse brains. Her research is directed towards elucidating the mechanisms of action of antipsychotics, antidepressants and psychostimulants and the mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders. In these studies, by using 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptor knockout mice, she expects to integrate biochemical, and behavioral if needed, perspectives to aid in the development of a better understanding of the mechanisms of these receptors, underlying drugs in mental disease treatment.
