Beth Angell, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of University of Chicago, is going to examine the role of medication use in the effectiveness of a treatment intervention called assertive community treatment (ACT). ACT is the best validated community treatment intervention for schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses. ACT uses multidisciplinary teams to deliver the range of services required for individuals with schizophrenia to live successfully in the community, including the provision of long-term care. Dr. Angell will analyze data derived from a seven-year evaluation of an ACT program, and conduct a pilot study aimed at developing a survey instrument for assessing ACT treatment provider strategies for encouraging medication use. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
