Serge Beaulieu, M.D., Ph.D. (Independent Investigator 2007) of McGill University, will investigate the use of light therapy to treat bipolar type II depression. Based on studies that show light therapy to decrease depressive symptoms for people with seasonal and nonseasonal unipolar depression, Dr. Beaulieu proposes to study its efficacy and safety for bipolar type II patients who relapse into a depressive phase during the period of October to February. Depressive and manic symptoms, quality of life, sleep quality and side effects will be assessed at baseline and during the study to provide data as to the long-term benefits of light treatment during the dark months of the year. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar\Bipolar II |
