Stephanie L. Borgland, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Ernest Gallo Clinic & Research Center University of California, San Francisco, will study orexin and its role in altering ventral tegmental area (VTA) dopamine neurons. These neurons play a key role in schizophrenia. Results of Dr. Borgland’s studies will determine how orexin modulates dopaminergic signaling in the midbrain and may provide a novel therapeutic direction for the treatment of schizophrenia.
