Colleen A. Brenner, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Indiana University, plans to directly investigate the relationship between COMT polymorphisms and the P50 response in schizophrenia. Dr. Brenner proposes to (1) characterize the extent to which specific deficits represent stable endophenotypes for schizophrenia, (2) directly test the relationship between these endophenotypes and specific candidate genes for schizophrenia, and (3) test whether these relationships are state or trait mediated by performing the same analyses on those with similar but less severe symptoms, such as subjects with schizotypal personality disorder (SPD). Results of her studies of brain function could provide new insights with implications for improved treatments. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS |
