Mary F. Brunette, M.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of Dartmouth College, is studying a new approach toward rehabilitating parenting skills in mothers with severe mental illness. The treatment model, involving an integrated case management approach, is being piloted in a community mental health system. This model aims to improve parenting role functioning and supports for parenting by using a trained family specialist. Dr. Brunette will refine, document, and manualize this intervention, and conduct several assessments including barriers to parenting through systematic inquiry. This work addresses an important, albeit neglected issue, since over half of women with severe mental illness are parents. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
