Tal Burt, M.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of Columbia University, is characterizing the symptoms and neuropsychological functioning of elderly patients with bipolar disorder. The project involves comparing these measures between elderly patients with unipolar and bipolar depression; and elderly patients with early-onset and late-onset bipolar illness. In addition, changes in symptoms and neuropsychological functioning that accompany remission will be evaluated. This study meets an important public health need, since there is expected to be rapid growth in the prevalence of mental illness in the geriatric population. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar |
