Corinne Cather, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of Massachusetts General Hospital, will investigate the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in the treatment of predominant negative symptoms in schizophrenia. Dr. Cather hypothesizes that CBT will be superior to supportive counseling at follow-up in improving negative symptoms, cognitive functioning, distress, and functional outcomes. Exploratory analyses will be conducted to identify predicted of treatment response, including neuropsychological functioning and severity of negative symptoms.
