Haiming Chen, M.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of Johns Hopkins Hospital, will attempt to identify genes with altered expression in patients with bipolar disorder. This will be accomplished using a new and sophisticated technique called microarray expression analysis, in which the expression of many genes can be analyzed simultaneously. Subjects with bipolar disorder and their healthy siblings will be studied. Further molecular genetic techniques will be used to prioritize the identified genes. This project may form the basis of further study of the molecular basis of the genes differentially expressed in bipolar disorder. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar |
