Jill S. Compton, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Duke University, is investigating the relationship between couple intimacy and depression among elderly patients, including severity of symptoms, response to antidepressants and cognitive-behavioral therapy, and treatment outcome. Impaired social support has previously been linked to the onset and maintenance of depressive symptoms. Fifty couples with a clinically depressed partner will complete clinical interviews and videotaped interaction tasks at baseline and during treatment. Couple interactions will be coded. This data may help further clarify the relationship between intimacy and couple patterns to depression in the elderly. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar)\Geriatric |
