Scott N. Compton, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Duke University, will assess the effectiveness of an aerobic exercise program for the treatment of adolescent major depression. Thirty depressed outpatient adolescents will be randomly assigned to either a 12-week aerobic exercise program or a 12-week nonaerobic control group. This study may lead to a new treatment alternative or adjunctive treatment to traditional approaches for adolescent depression, which may be particularly beneficial for children whose parents' value non-medical forms of treatment. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar)\Child/Adolescent |
