Vladimir Coric, M.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of Connecticut Mental Health Center, is evaluating the efficacy of riluzole augmentation in SRI-refractory Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Riluzole is thought to decrease glutamatergic activity in the central nervous system by inhibiting the release of glutamic acid from nerve terminals and noncompetively blocking the effects of glutamic acid at post-synaptic receptors. Recent neuroimaging studies have implicated increased glutamatergic activity in the pathogenesis of OCD. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)\Pharmacology |
