Alexander Fan, M.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center/University of California, Los Angeles, will investigate the efficacy of allopurinol as an augmentation agent for treatment resistant mania and mixed mania. Dr. Fan hypothesizes that allopurinol, in combination with a therapeutic dose of lithium or valproic acid or carbamazepine, will improve clinical outcome in treatment resistant mania and mixed mania. The results of the proposed study might provide an economical, tolerable and safe agent for the treatment of mania. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar |
