Xiaoduo Fan, M.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University, will investigate insulin effects on cognition and how it may be involved in long-term potentiation, learning and memory. Dr. Fan speculates that administration of centrally available insulin might improve clinical symptoms of schizophrenia through NMDA receptors. He plans to examine the efficacy of insulin in improving negative symptoms, positive symptoms, and cognitive deficits of schizophrenia. Dr. Fan will also examine intranasal insulin’s effect on weight, food intake, resting energy expenditure and body composition. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
