David E. Fleck, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of University of Cincinnati, is studying the differences between formerly medication-free African-American and Caucasian bipolar patients medication-taking after being hospitalized for bipolar disorder. He will examine the ethnic differences in the percentage of individuals who stop medications, how long it takes before they stop, the clinical factors associated with stopping and the reasons for stopping. Dr. Fleck hopes his findings will enable bipolar patients, particularly African-American patients, to take medication more often, and for longer periods, while reducing side effects risks. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar |
