Anna Francesconi, M.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, is investigating the regulation of glutamate receptors in the brain. Abnormalities of this neurotransmitter have been associated with psychotic symptoms including those seen in schizophrenia. Dr. Francesconi has identified a small region in a glutamate receptor called mGluR1, which helps to carry the receptor to its correct location in the nerve cell. She will identify the proteins or factors involved in this process. This work will provide important insights into how this neurotransmitter receptor is targeted, and on how the circuitry of nerve cells is established. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
