Brandon A. Gaudiano, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Butler Hospital/Brown University, plans to research feasible and effective treatments for bipolar substance abusers specifically. Research indicates that bipolar substance users have a poor course of illness, which is predicted by treatment nonadherence. Dr. Gaudiano will develop and test the Integrated Treatment Adherence Program (ITAP), which combines brief individual, family, and telephone-based interventions. He expects those receiving ITAP to show improved treatment adherence and decreased bipolar and substance use severity. This pilot study will lay the groundwork to test ITAP in a larger clinical trial. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar\Substance Abuse |
