Pablo V. Gejman, M.D. (Distinguished Investigator 2000) of University of Chicago, will study the effect of synonymous changes in a gene called DRD2 (a dopamine receptor gene) on protein synthesis. The detection of gene expression determined by these mutations could potentially have important implications for cell biology and human genetics, particularly for disorders such as schizophrenia. If protein synthesis changes are demonstrated in the DRD2 gene, experiments will be extended to other genes of the dopamine family and other neurotransmitter receptor families. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
