Robert W. Gereau, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Baylor College of Medicine, is examining the role of a class of neurotransmitter receptors called mGluR in pain associated with arthritis. These studies will provide the first examination of the effectiveness of mGluR blockers to treat arthritic pain. Chronic pain is widespread, affecting roughly 75 million US citizens.
