Dorie A. Glover, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, is studying the relationship between infant hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) activity and maternal postpartum depression. In adults, elevations in cortisol are associated with depressive symptoms; therefore, Dr. Glover will assess cortisol levels in babies of depressed vs. non-depressed mothers. The study will also investigate the relationship between cortisol levels and mother-child interactions indicating the level of attachment. Results will provide insight into the effects of maternal depression on the infant's HPS functioning and explore the influence of specific maternal behaviors. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar)\Postpartum Depression |
