Susan E. Holmes, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2004) of Johns Hopkins University, plans to screen a sample of individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder for three of the seven genes in the so-called “14-3-3” family of proteins, which has been associated with both conditions. Several lines of genetic evidence show these genes may have a strong association with these diseases. Dr. Holmes will focus on the 14-3-3 epsilon, gamma and eta genes, examining their entire genetic sequences, including exons, introns and promoters, in patients. Program Area: MULTIPLE FOCUS AREAS\Bipolar Disorder/Schizophrenia |
