Philip Jackson, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Centre de Recherche Université Laval Robert-Giffard/Laval University, is studying empathy disturbance in schizophrenia. Deficits in empathy can stem from dysfunctions in different neural processes subserved by distinct cerebral pathways. Dr. Jackson wants to characterize the behavioral, cerebral functional and genetic correlates of empathy dysfunction. He will conduct behavioral and functional brain studies with magnetic resonance imaging of people with schizophrenia and nonsymptomatic relatives. His findings could provide novel tools to improve early detection of the disorder and to distinguish between potentially distinct subtypes. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS |
