Sheena A. Josselyn, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of University of California, Los Angeles, is examining the role of a transcription factor called CREB in depression. CREB has been shown to be decreased in the brains of patients with depression, and is increased by antidepressant medication. Dr. Josselyn will use an animal behavioral model of depression involving molecular manipulations that either chronically or acutely decrease CREB function. The involvement of CREB in the therapeutic effectiveness of antidepressants will be assessed in these mice. The findings from this study may aid in the development of new types of treatment for depression. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar) |
