Joan Kaufman, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Yale University School of Medicine, will determine whether the same anatomical structures are associated with major depression in child, adolescent, and adult patients, and to examine the impact of recurrence and total duration of illness on brain changes associated with depression. Structural magnetic resonance imaging will be used to assess the volume of key cortical and subcortical brain structures in 20 depressed children and 20 depressed adolescents. This work may contribute to our knowledge of brain structural abnormalities in childhood and adolescent major depression. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar)\Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)\Child/Adolescent |
