Gina R. Kuperberg, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Massachusetts General Hospital, will study the temporal and spatial dynamics of language dysfunction in schizophrenia. Two techniques-event-related potentials (ERPs) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) will be used. Dr. Kuperberg will use these techniques to address the question of when schizophrenic patients differ from healthy subjects in the localization of brain activation associated with using context during language processing. This line of research may lead to more rational treatment approaches which target the fundamental cognitive deficits of schizophrenia. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
