Matthew M. Kurtz, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital, will investigate the neurocognitive characteristics of patients who benefit from cognitive remediation, which is a novel behavioral treatment for schizophrenia that targets neurocognitive deficits directly by activating under-functioning neural systems through repeated practice on neurocognitive exercises. Initial treatment trials have yielded promising results. There is considerable variability in the degree and pattern of neuropsychological deficits that frequently accompany this disorder. Information regarding this issue will be crucial for matching patients to treatments from which they will derive the most benefit. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
