Scott A. Langenecker, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of the University of Michigan Medical Center, is conducting research aimed at better understanding of the mechanisms of illness and better predictors of treatment response in patients with depression and related affective disorders. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, he and his colleagues are comparing information about patients’ cognitive and emotional processing abnormalities. They are also applying positron emission tomography to help explain the relationship of serotonin binding to emotion processing and regulation in mood disorders.
