Robert H. Lenox, M.D. (Distinguished Investigator 2001) of Aventis Pharmaceuticals, will investigate the molecular action of lithium on the regulation of expression of proteins involved in the mammalian clock. The mammalian clock refers to daily rhythms in the sleep-wake cycle and other functions. In addition, Dr. Lenox will study the potential relationship between a protein called MARCKS and function of the mammalian clock. The MARCKS protein plays important roles in remodeling and nerve cell changes, and may be affected by lithium. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar |
