Adam B. Lewin, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2008) of University of California, Los Angeles, will do an examination of prepulse inhibition (PPI) and neurocognitive deficits in children with Obsessive Compulsive disorder. PPI, is the process by which exposure to a weak initial sound weakens or inhibits the acoustic startle response to a louder subsequent stimulus. A better understanding of acoustic startle in children with OCD will provide important information about the phenomenology of the disorder and the mechanisms by which current treatments work, and potentially inform the development of even more effective interventions for children with this common, chronic, and impairing illness. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) |
