Veronika Logovinsky, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, is examining the characteristics of spontaneous speech in patients with schizophrenia and normal controls. The speech of these subjects will be digitally recorded and analyzed to calculate eleven parameters of speech. These parameters will then be used to distinguish schizophrenic patients from controls. This method may represent an improvement upon standard methods of diagnosis, which consists largely of descriptions of symptoms. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
