Giamal N. Luheshi, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of Douglas Hospital Research Centre, is studying the cytokine interleukin (IL)-1, and the possibility that it is an immune mediator of the body's response to infection and may result in the development of schizophrenia. The study will seek to identify the role of this cytokine in the induction of schizophrenia after maternal infection and to ultimately assess its potential as a therapeutic target for the treatment of schizophrenia. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
