Sonia J. Lupien, Ph.D. (Independent Investigator 2007) of Douglas Hospital Research Centre, McGill University, will test the efficacy of a program aimed at educating children and adolescents about stress and its impact on memory, emotional processing and mental health. The program, called “DeStress for Success,” involves ten 40-minute visits to schools, each of which will present a topic on stress, learning and emotions, using interactive discussions and role-playing. Three outcome variables will be measured in 1,080 children, tested in groups of 30 and split over 2 age groups. A significant outcome of the program should be the observation of decreased stress hormone levels, increased attentional capacity, emotional processing and learning performance, as compared with comparable levels in groups exposed to another program that does not involves education about stress and mental health. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Mood Disorders (General) |
