Lauren Marangell, M.D., (Independent Investigator 2006) of Baylor College of Medicine, will use information from a database of over 4,000 patients with bipolar disorder to address questions regarding suicidality in patients with bipolar disorder, such as the possible benefits of lithium in preventing suicide, and whether co-morbid psychiatric disorders alter this effect and/or non-adherence to long-term treatment. Dr. Marangell’s study will provide important information for the clinical treatment of bipolar disorder and will be used to design an effectiveness trial of intention in patients at high risk for suicide, ultimately leading to better diagnostics and prevention of suicidality in individuals with bipolar disorder. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar\Suicide |
