Nadia Micali, M.D., MRCPsych (Young Investigator 2003) of Institute of Psychiatry, will investigate the development of children of mothers with eating disorders in order to understand if these children have more physical and psychological health problems than other children. There have been no large-scale studies on this topic to date. Data previously collected independently from this study includes detailed information on the children's growth, eating habits, physical and psychological development during infancy and childhood. This data will be analyzed and findings could be fundamental in guiding treatment of mothers with eating disorders and in preventing illness in the children, as well as providing information about the relationship between genetic and environmental factors in causing eating disorders.
