Valeria Mondelli, M.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, University of London, will address the question of how psychosis leads to weight gain and increased cardiovascular risk; specifically, whether the physical problems are due to the psychosis, psychosis medications, or both. Dr. Mondelli’s team will study a large group of affected individuals as soon as possible after they have developed psychosis, monitoring their hormonal profile, how they eat, and how their weight, blood glucose and lipids change over three months of treatment. The aim of the study is to increase patients’ awareness and understanding of the factors of the disorder that affecting their physical health.
