Emanuela Mundo, M.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of Centre For Addiction and Mental Health, will investigate a possible genetic factor he discovered which may be responsible for antidepressant-induced mania in bipolar patients undergoing pharmacological treatment. Dr. Mundo will attempt to establish if expression of the serotonin transporter gene in the brain is truly different in patients with antidepressant-induced mania vs. patients who did not, and normal controls. This study may lead to the development of pharmacological strategies to manage and/or prevent the occurrence of antidepressant-induced mania in Bipolar Disorder. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar |
