Inez Myin-Germeys, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of Maastricht University, will study schizophrenia by examining the subtle impairments that are considered part of the underlying illness vulnerability which are known as endophenotypes. These are found in patients and, to a lesser degree, their first-degree relatives. One such endophenotype is a deficit in cognitive capacity (problems with memory/attention). Another is a hypersensitivity to daily life stressors. Dr. Myin-Germeys plans to examine the relationship between these two endophenotypes by investigating whether cognitive deficits cause stress sensitivities or if these impairments are independent of each other. Additionally, Dr. Myin-Germeys will focus on the clustering of these impairments in families in a sample of patients with psychosis and their healthy siblings. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
